Our mission is to help people with compromised mobility participate in outdoor adaptive sports and recreation activities.\u00a0 Navigating both water and land GO Unlimited has become an international leader in design, build, technology, and services creating mobility solutions for various outdoor recreational interests. In GO Unlimited\u2019s home state of New Mexico is where testing of new technology and designs are then incorporated into local community projects. Sophisticated adaptive boating, mountain cycling, and wheelchair attachments are several key components enabling vast expansion in outdoor exploration and recreational involvement by the disability community. GO Unlimited views individual connections with the outdoors as a necessity for human health and wellbeing, and for the health and wellbeing of our planet. Working with a collective of local and global professionals, GO Unlimited is raising awareness about the interconnections between outdoor recreation, health, education and employment.<\/p>\n

In 2023, GO Unlimited expanded into infrastructure project services to create largescale improvements in adaptive access to the great outdoors. Working with New Mexico State Parks and other organizations interested in providing high quality access projects – the future is looking bright for disabled persons outdoor recreation interests. Thousands of lives have been changed and the quality of life for people living with disabilities is now better than ever due to increased access to outdoor opportunities. GO Unlimited serves children and adults with a wide range of mobility limitations.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In 2003 a motorcycle accident caused Dustin Berg\u2019s T-7 vertebrae to rupture causing paralysis. Shortly after, he found purpose in helping others with similar injuries and went on to become the primary founder of GO Unlimited. Dustin and his team saw involvement in outdoor activities as a necessary component for a healthy happy life. Individuals with disabilities were often overlooked and their societal and economic impact was unrealized. By including this often-overlooked community in outdoor pursuits, a new healthier happier user group emerged, bringing increased participation and growth to the outdoor economy.<\/p>\n

As GO Unlimited expanded, it became clear that access to nature wasn\u2019t the only piece of the puzzle missing for individuals with disabilities. Support groups organically formed within the community, offering a platform for members to share experiences, provide mutual support, and help one another overcome the challenges associated with life-altering injuries. Through these efforts, it became evident that education and employment were key factors in empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives. This understanding laid the foundation for what we now call the Continuum of Life Project<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>

The vision for the Continuum of Life Project stems from the belief that outdoor recreation, health care, education, and employment are deeply interconnected. In Dustin\u2019s words, \u201cIt\u2019s difficult for someone to fully participate in outdoor recreation and reap its healthy benefits without the necessary resources, which are often acquired through education and employment.\u201d<\/p>\n

GO Unlimited’s approach is multifaceted, providing accessible outdoor experiences and helping to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to pursue their own grand adventures. By fostering collaborations between the outdoor, healthcare, education, and employment sectors, we aim to create a comprehensive support network that helps people thrive.<\/p>\n

Our work has proven that given the opportunity, people with disabilities can exceed expectations, overcome challenges, and contribute meaningfully to society. Dustin Berg was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where his love for the outdoors began at an early age, nurtured by adventurous family activities like snowboarding, rock climbing, fly-fishing, and camping. A catastrophic motorcycle accident in 2003 resulted in a spinal cord injury, changing the way he engaged with the world. As he navigated life in a wheelchair, Dustin quickly realized the lack of accessibility in the outdoor spaces he cherished. This led him to establish Global Opportunities Unlimited, Inc. (GO Unlimited) in 2005, a non-profit dedicated to making outdoor recreation accessible to individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Dustin's work with GO Unlimited reflects his deep commitment to ensuring that people of all abilities can experience the joys of nature. His leadership has led to the creation of accessible outdoor infrastructure across the region, impacting countless lives. In addition to leading the organization, Dustin is a dedicated husband to his wife Melissa, and a proud father to their son, Tyler. Barbara Giannini was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and retired from a successful career with the State of New Mexico Judicial System. Now serving as Secretary and Treasurer for Global Opportunities Unlimited (GO Unlimited), Barbara brings a deep commitment to advocating for outdoor recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. Her personal journey into this field began after her son sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 26, which led her to become involved with this exceptional organization.<\/p>\n

Barbara first connected with GO Unlimited through a 2014 fundraising event, where she met Dustin Berg, whose dedication to expanding outdoor activities for mobility-challenged individuals greatly impressed her. Inspired by his passion and professional commitment, Barbara took on the role of organizing GO Unlimited's annual dinner and silent auction fundraisers. She also actively supports the organization\u2019s fundraising efforts, helping secure resources for essential equipment like adaptive boats, fishing gear, hand cycles, and e-bikes, enabling inclusive outdoor experiences for participants.<\/p>\n

An avid bowler and golfer, Barbara is honored to contribute to GO Unlimited\u2019s mission, which not only enriches the lives of those with physical disabilities but fosters a vibrant volunteer community. Alan Wright brings decades of business and nonprofit expertise to the Global Opportunities Board. Originally from England, Alan lived in New Mexico for 20 years before joining Global Opportunities in 2006 after a chance meeting with Executive Director Dustin Berg at a Rotary event. Since then, his 18-year association with the organization has been marked by substantial contributions to grant writing and nonprofit management, helping secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding.<\/p>\n

Rebecca Dutton, MD, is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician who specializes in Sports Medicine. Her career path has been driven by a desire help others realize their maximum physical potential and function. After completing her medical training in California, Rebecca came to New Mexico to help establish the state\u2019s first and only residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with the larger goal of improving access to high quality rehabilitation care in the area. She currently serves as the Residency\u2019s Program Director and Division Chief of PM&R at the University of New Mexico, and is also a team physician for the UNM Lobos. Much of her clinical and research interests are directed towards adapted sports initiatives, and in particular reducing barriers to sports participation. Cindy Howell is an accomplished operations executive and health care leader with over 25 years of experience in corporate, hospital, and clinical settings. As a seasoned Registered Nurse and clinician, she has a proven track record of developing high-impact strategies, improving operational efficiency, and exceeding quality targets through data-driven initiatives and collaborative leadership. Cindy has led critical programs and spearheaded operational excellence at organizations such as Western Sky Community Care (Centene), Acadia Healthcare, and Molina Health Care, consistently safeguarding quality care and enhancing productivity.<\/p>\n

In her role as Vice President of Population Health Clinical Operations and Quality Improvement at Western Sky Community Care, Cindy led transformative initiatives that maximized efficiency, empowered over 150 staff members, and resulted in NCQA accreditation. Her expertise in guiding teams and partnering with health care leaders has contributed to successful accreditations and performance improvements across multiple organizations.<\/p>\n

Cindy\u2019s passion for the outdoors, particularly fishing, has deepened through her and her husband\u2019s active involvement in GO Unlimited\u2019s adaptive fishing trips. They both enjoy volunteering to help provide mobility-impaired individuals with the opportunity to reconnect with nature through fishing. Travis Sutherland, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, brings both personal experience and unwavering dedication to his role on the GO Unlimited Board. Growing up, Travis was an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying lake and river fishing, motorcycle riding, softball, and basketball. His career spanned a decade in the trucking industry, where he drove commercial trucks for local businesses across the country.<\/p>\n

At age 27, a life-altering spinal cord injury left Travis with permanent quadriplegia. Determined to stay connected and active, he joined the Spinal Cord Injury Support Group at Lovelace Hospital in 2006. There, he met Dustin Berg, founder of Global Opportunities Unlimited, Inc. (GO Unlimited), who introduced him to the organization\u2019s mission of empowering mobility-challenged individuals through outdoor recreation. Inspired by Dustin\u2019s vision, Travis, along with his wife, Carol, attended their first GO Unlimited fundraiser and soon became actively involved in the organization\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n

Today, as a GO Unlimited Board member, Travis is passionate about expanding access to outdoor activities for individuals with mobility challenges. Through programs that offer fishing, hunting, cycling, and social outings, he helps participants regain a sense of freedom and community. Travis\u2019s journey with GO Unlimited has not only deepened his commitment to advocacy but has also enabled him to build lifelong friendships. Michael Murphy is an intellectual property attorney and the founder of a boutique law firm specializing in trademarks and patents. In addition to his legal expertise, Michael is a passionate advocate for disability rights. As the founder of Willing to Work New Mexico, a coalition dedicated to improving opportunities for individuals with disabilities, he leads advocacy efforts focused on the state's Working Disabled Individuals Medicaid program.<\/p>\n

As a board member of GO Unlimited, Michael is committed to enhancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities and expanding access to adaptive sports and outdoor adventure experiences.
