Skiing:
2008
Since the later part of 2007 Global Opportunities Unlimited and Lovelace
Rehabilitation Hospital have been working together to improve the Spinal
Cord Injury (SCI) Support Group. Therapeutic recreation is one aspect
where vast improvements are being made. Dustin Berg, from Global
Opportunities Unlimited and the great personnel from the Santa Fe
Adaptive Ski Program were able to coordinate an adaptive ski trip for
Martin Luther King weekend. Members of the Support Group enjoyed a
wonderful day skiing in Santa Fe. Adaptive skiing enables people with
limited lower body strength to ski using equipment modified into a
sitting position. Enabling and facilitation of enhanced quality of life
activities is a tremendous help for a person who's life has changed
dramatically due to a SCI. Motivation, hope, lifestyle information and
peer support are all resources that can be found at the Spinal Cord
Injury Support Group.
